US corporations are currently paying the lowest amount of net interest relative to the economy in over a decade. Net interest payments have fallen to 0.4% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product, marking a significant 1.2 percentage point decrease since 2022.
This downward trend persists even though the Federal Reserve implemented aggressive monetary tightening. Between 2022 and 2023, the central bank raised interest rates from a baseline of 0.25% to a peak of 5.50%.
