Elon Musk said SpaceX secured $40 billion in debt financing to purchase GPUs. The chips are scheduled for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2027.

Musk said SpaceX was able to secure the financing because it is investment grade and has revenue from Starlink and launches. The financing has been in the works for several weeks and is expected to include bank loans and investment-grade debt.

The funds will support the expansion of SpaceX’s AI data centers, which will use Nvidia hardware. SpaceX has been investing heavily in its Super Intelligence segment.

The company’s capital expenditures reached $19.6 billion in the third quarter of 2026. The new debt will more than double SpaceX’s total debt, to around $79 billion.
