Reports emerged on June 17, 2026, that Sony’s Bungie studio faces massive layoffs this summer.
Sources indicate the studio may cut up to 50% of its workforce. These reductions would affect approximately 400 employees. Bungie currently employs a total staff of around 800 people.
The potential cuts follow the completion of new content for Destiny 2. Underwhelming performance of the newer title Marathon also drove the decision. Sony recently reported a $765 million impairment loss linked to Bungie's game performance. Neither Sony nor Bungie has issued an official announcement regarding the layoffs.
