Shares of SoFi Technologies jumped 10.4% in pre-market trading to $15.97 on October 27 after the company posted third-quarter results that handily topped Wall Street expectations and raised its outlook for the rest of 2026 — a combination that forces investors to reassess whether SoFi's transition from a student-loan refinancer to a full-service digital bank is finally paying durable dividends. SoFi Posts a Blowout Quarter and Raises Its Bets — But at 26 Times Next Year's Earnings, Is the Growth Already Priced In?

Shares of SoFi Technologies surged 10.4% to $15.97 in pre-market trading Tuesday after the digital bank delivered a third quarter that blew past Wall Street forecasts on nearly every line, raised its 2026 outlook for the second time this year, and laid down a 2027 target that no analyst had penciled in. The results confirm SoFi's transformation from a student-loan refinancer into a fast-scaling consumer bank — but the stock now trades at roughly 26 times the company's own $0.61 full-year 2026 earnings estimate, leaving little room for stumbles.

Revenue Grew 44% While Profits Nearly Doubled

Total net revenue rose 44% to $1.39 billion. Net income hit $241 million, up from $139.4 million a year earlier, with earnings of $0.18 per share versus $0.11 a year ago.

Analysts had expected $0.17 in per-share profit and $1.26 billion in revenue.

Adjusted EBITDA — a measure of operating profit before certain accounting items — jumped 70% to $469.8 million, representing a 34% margin. That margin improvement matters: it shows SoFi is growing revenue faster than it is spending, a sign the bank-charter cost structure is working.

Loan Originations Exploded, and Credit Quality Held

Lending revenue reached $807.4 million, up 68%. Personal loan originations rose 69% to $12.6 billion, student loans surged 96% to $2.9 billion, and home loans climbed 44% to $1.4 billion.

Crucially, the personal-loan charge-off rate — a gauge of bad debt — fell 34 basis points year-over-year to 2.26%. Accelerating lending with improving credit quality quiets a key bear concern, though a recession would test these loans fast.

Guidance Leapfrogged the Street's Models

SoFi lifted its 2026 adjusted revenue target to $5.04 billion — a 40% annual increase — up from a prior range of $4.75–$4.85 billion.

The freshly introduced 2027 outlook calls for roughly $6.4 billion in revenue, $2.24 billion in EBITDA, and $0.90 in earnings per share, all "well ahead of analyst estimates."

Members Keep Piling In — The Real Long-Term Signal

SoFi added a record 1.2 million members in the quarter, bringing total membership to 17.1 million (up 35%), with total products jumping 44% to 26.7 million.

Cross-buying — existing members adding new SoFi products — hit 51%, up 11 points year-over-year, with products per member rising to 1.56. More products per customer means more revenue at minimal extra cost — the core economic engine management is banking on to sustain growth into 2028 and beyond.
