A Dutch consumer foundation filed a mass claim lawsuit against Snap Inc. The foundation alleges Snapchat uses intentionally addictive design features.
The lawsuit seeks a court order disabling features like streaks and snapscores by default, requiring an opt-in. It demands compensation of up to €1,850 per user. Minimum payouts would start at €425 based on age and usage patterns.
The legal action calls for enhanced safety measures for younger users. These include restrictions on location sharing to prevent contact from strangers. The foundation also demands action against accounts involved in illicit activities.
Snap stated location sharing is off by default and emphasized its commitment to user safety. This challenge follows a similar Dutch case from June. It also follows a major U.S. settlement where Meta agreed to platform changes for minors on Instagram and Facebook.
The European Commission and the Dutch consumer regulator have investigated Snapchat's practices concerning minors since 2025.
