SK hynix is exploring a potential investment in a new memory chip facility in Miyagi, Japan. The project could involve tens of trillions of won to expand production capacity. This expansion aims to meet the growing global demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI.

Speculation regarding the move intensified following a visit by the SK Group chairman to the region. SK hynix clarified to the Korea Exchange on August 21 that no final decision has been made. The company is currently reviewing various options for new production bases to strengthen its memory business.

A formal update will be provided within one month or once details are finalized. The company's stock gained over 2% in pre-market trading following the reports.
