Silicon Motion Technology launched the SM2524XT, a next-generation PCIe Gen5 DRAMless SSD controller. The hardware specifically targets AI inference and KV Cache workloads.

The controller utilizes a four-processor-core architecture built on TSMC’s 6nm process technology. It achieves sequential read speeds of up to 14 GB/s. Random performance reaches up to 2.5 million IOPS.

The company designed the SM2524XT for AI PCs and on-device Large Language Model (LLM) workloads. Senior VP Nelson Duann stated the controller provides the low latency required for next-generation AI storage. Duann highlighted the critical role of KV Cache in optimizing AI inference performance.
