Pfizer reported positive Phase 2b study results for berobenatide, an investigational once-monthly weight loss injection. Data presented at the American Diabetes Association's Scientific Sessions showed up to 15.9% non-placebo-adjusted weight loss. This result occurred over a 60-week period. Patients in the study reached this weight loss without hitting a plateau.

Participants generally tolerated the treatment well. Berobenatide could become the first monthly GLP-1 agonist for chronic weight management. This dosing schedule offers a convenience advantage over weekly injections like Wegovy and Zepbound.

Pfizer will launch a Phase 3 program this year. The program includes 10 separate studies to evaluate chronic weight management and related conditions. These conditions include sleep apnea and osteoarthritis. The move intensifies competition against market leaders Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk.
