The European Commission fined Chinese retailer Temu €200 million ($232 million) for violating the Digital Services Act.

Regulators determined the company failed to prevent the sale of illegal products. The investigation followed complaints from European consumer organizations regarding generic risk assessments that underestimated consumer exposure to illicit items.

Safety tests revealed a high percentage of products, including chargers and baby toys, failed basic standards. Temu must submit a compliance plan by August 28, 2026, to avoid further penalties.
