The U.S. Justice Department reversed its policy to permit federal employees to download TikTok on government devices. This decision updates a 2022 law that barred the app due to national security concerns regarding Chinese parent company ByteDance.

The policy shift follows ByteDance transferring control of U.S. operations to TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC. U.S. and global investors, including Oracle and Silver Lake, now hold majority ownership of the new entity. This structure secures U.S. user data and manages content moderation independently from the former Chinese parent company.
