An EMA expert panel recommended approving Novo Nordisk's Wegovy 7.2 mg single-dose pen for adults with obesity.
The new pen offers a weekly injection. The current EU method requires three separate 2.4 mg injections to achieve the same dose.
The CHMP based its positive opinion on clinical trials. In these trials, the 7.2 mg dose led to a mean weight loss of up to 20.7%.
The U.S. and UK have already approved the single-dose pen.
Novo Nordisk plans to launch the pen in the EU in the third quarter of 2026. This launch depends on final approval from the European Commission.
