The European Medicines Agency’s CHMP recommended marketing authorization for two Novo Nordisk obesity treatments. These include the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) and a 7.2 mg Wegovy injection in a single-dose pen.
The Wegovy pill is set to become the first oral GLP-1 weight management treatment approved in the EU. This approval positions Novo Nordisk ahead of Eli Lilly, whose oral treatment is not expected in Europe until 2027.
Novo Nordisk plans to launch these treatments in select EU markets during the second half of 2026. The European Commission typically follows CHMP recommendations for final approval.
