France will begin reimbursing Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro starting mid-June 2026. This decision makes France the first European Union nation to cover these weight-loss medications.

The French government will cover 65% of the cost for severely obese patients. Many individuals will receive 100% coverage if they have associated health conditions.

Eligibility targets adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher. Patients with a BMI of 35 or greater qualify if they have at least one weight-related comorbidity.

The French Health Minister estimates the eligible population at approximately one million people. Patients currently pay roughly €300 per month out-of-pocket for these treatments.
