Perplexity launched Portable Computer, an AI agent platform that runs entirely on local hardware. Developed in partnership with Nvidia, the system eliminates cloud-based token fees by processing tasks on the user's device.
The platform initially supports Nvidia DGX Spark and RTX-powered Linux PCs. Support for Windows hardware is scheduled for September.
Portable Computer maintains data privacy by keeping files and workflows on-device. While tasks start locally, the system can request permission to access cloud models for complex processing. Only the cloud-based portion of these tasks incurs usage costs.
The initial release targets users with high-end Nvidia systems. It is available to Perplexity Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers.
