AFWERX selected NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract. This contract will advance the company's KRONOS MMR™ energy system for the U.S. Department of the Air Force (DAF). The contract began on July 21, 2026. It aims to address the DAF's most pressing energy challenges.
This award marks a key step in NANO Nuclear's defense commercialization strategy. It builds on multiple active engagements with the Air Force. The KRONOS system is a stationary high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. It will be evaluated for its potential to provide secure, resilient power for military installations. A successful Phase I could lead to further deployment opportunities across the U.S. military.
