German state-owned utility Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) will purchase one million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually from Canada’s Ksi Lisims project. This preliminary agreement spans a 20-year term. Deliveries from the British Columbia facility are scheduled to begin in the early 2030s.

The deal represents the first European contract for the project as it nears a final investment decision. Ksi Lisims is a joint venture between the Nisga'a Nation, Rockies LNG, and Western LNG. The project previously secured long-term offtake agreements with Shell and TotalEnergies.

This partnership allows Germany to diversify its long-term energy sources. It also provides the commercial backing necessary for the Canadian project to begin construction.
