Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince announced that for the first time, automated bot traffic has surpassed human traffic on the internet. According to the company's data, bots now account for approximately 57.5% of all HTTP requests, compared to 42.5% from humans. This milestone was reached much earlier than Prince's previous prediction of late 2027, with the CEO attributing the acceleration to the rapid growth of "agentic traffic" from AI systems.
The surge is driven by AI agents that browse the web on behalf of users, scraping content for data training and completing tasks. These AI systems generate a significantly higher volume of web page requests than a human user would to perform the same task. This shift has major implications for cybersecurity, website analytics, and business models built around human engagement, underscoring the growing importance of bot detection and management services provided by companies like Cloudflare.
