At an investor conference on October 1, NextEra Energy CEO John Ketchum said the company is accelerating its growth plans.
The strategy centers on securing 20.5 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity through federal hub projects. It includes 18 GW of natural gas generation and 2 GW of energy storage. The projects are primarily intended to serve large-load customers, including data centers.
NextEra said its pending combination with Dominion Energy is key to advancing the growth strategy. Ketchum said the merger could nearly double NextEra’s size by 2032.
The Dominion transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027 and faces regulatory review.
