NextEra Energy and Brookfield Asset Management are partnering to build a $100 billion data center campus in Paducah, Kentucky. The project repurposes a former Cold War-era uranium enrichment facility owned by the Department of Energy. This privately-funded initiative creates a major hub for artificial intelligence and data infrastructure.
The development addresses surging electricity demand driven by AI technologies. NextEra will build and own power generation assets including 2 gigawatts of natural gas-fired power. The energy infrastructure also features 2.6 gigawatts of battery storage.
Brookfield will develop and operate the 1.8 gigawatt data center. The project expects to reach completion by 2032. Construction and operation will create thousands of jobs.
