MTN Group is preparing to bid for a 5G license in Ghana. CEO Stephen Blewett confirmed the company will participate in the auction scheduled to begin within weeks.
The move follows the Ghanaian government's decision to terminate the exclusive 5G rights of Next Gen Infraco (NGIC). NGIC, a state-backed wholesaler, partnered with a firm linked to Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani but reportedly failed to meet rollout targets.
This policy shift opens the market to new competition. MTN and Telecel Group are expected to be the primary contenders in the upcoming licensing process.
