This stage follows the initial research focus and the subsequent product deployment phase led by ChatGPT. The strategy centers on three primary objectives. OpenAI plans to build an automated AI researcher to accelerate internal development. It also intends to drive scientific progress to boost the economy and provide a personal Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) to every individual.
OpenAI expects AI systems to conduct a significant portion of its research by March 2028. The company emphasizes that this transition requires human oversight and broadly distributed power. It explicitly rejects the concentration of AI capability within a few institutions.
