OpenAI secured its first permanent London office in King’s Cross with a scheduled 2027 opening. The new site will accommodate over 500 team members. This capacity more than doubles the current UK headcount of approximately 200.
The expansion establishes London as the company's largest research and development hub outside the United States. OpenAI cited the deep local talent pool as the primary driver for the investment.
The announcement follows the recent pause of the separate Stargate UK data center project. That initiative was halted due to high energy costs and an unfavorable regulatory environment.
