The United States, U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand issued a joint public warning regarding a widespread Chinese espionage campaign. China's military intelligence services are reportedly using LinkedIn and other professional networking sites to recruit individuals with access to sensitive information.
The operation employs fake profiles posing as recruiters or consultants to lure government and military personnel. Private sector experts with security clearances are also being targeted through fraudulent job offers.
These efforts aim to acquire privileged military, political, and economic intelligence for strategic advantage. This marks the first time the Five Eyes nations have collaborated on a public alert specifically addressing threats on networking platforms.
