Microsoft will extend critical security updates for Windows 10 personal users until October 12, 2027. The paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will cost users $30 for the additional year. Stricter hardware requirements for Windows 11 have slowed user adoption of the newer operating system.
Feature and non-security bug updates for Windows 10 will still conclude in August 2026. This extension provides consumers more time to transition to Windows 11 hardware while maintaining protection. Analysts view the move as a response to economic instability and a persistent Windows 10 user base.
Microsoft will also raise prices for Xbox Series S and X consoles on August 1, 2026. The company attributed the price hike to rising component costs.
