The campaign of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva accused Meta of election interference, alleging the company blocked or reduced the reach of his social media content ahead of the presidential runoff. It said Meta prevented the promotion of some Instagram posts and that profiles of leftist leaders temporarily disappeared from Instagram search before the first round of voting.
Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) gave Meta 48 hours to clarify whether it restricted the reach of the campaign’s posts and explain the reported irregularities. The court ordered Meta to detail all measures applied to Lula’s official accounts.
Meta’s office in Brazil denied the accusations, calling them “simply false.” It said any technical issues were not limited to specific accounts or Brazil.
