Meta Platforms has banned ads from ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, across its social media platforms. The ban took effect immediately in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan and others. It also covers third-party advertisers whose campaigns link to TikTok or other ByteDance apps in those regions.
Meta called the move a “normal business practice” when dealing with a competitor. The decision escalates its rivalry with ByteDance over user engagement and advertising revenue.
The move follows rising tensions. Meta has publicly urged TikTok to adopt child-safety measures similar to those TikTok recently agreed to.
