The European Commission issued a supplementary statement of objections against Meta Platforms. Regulators threatened an interim ban on WhatsApp policies that allegedly block rival AI firms.
The EU preliminarily found Meta is abusing its dominant market position. This behavior could cause serious and irreparable harm to competition.
This action follows an initial statement issued in February. A formal investigation was launched in December 2025.
The Commission rejected Meta’s proposal to allow access for a fee, labeling it equivalent to a ban. The EU intends to impose interim measures ordering Meta to restore rival access. Meta must provide the same conditions as before its policy change until the investigation concludes.
