Lee Ainslie's Maverick Capital sold its entire position in McDonald's Corp. (MCD) during the second quarter of 2026, a move valued at an estimated $91.40 million. According to its quarterly 13F filing, the transaction was part of a broader portfolio overhaul for the firm which saw it exit multiple consumer names. As these filings are released with a delay, the trades took place between the end of March and June 30.
The sale coincided with a period where McDonald's reported modest global comparable sales growth but also faced investor concerns about decelerating momentum, particularly in its core U.S. market which saw traffic soften. During the same quarter, McDonald's experienced a sharp decline in aggregate ownership among institutional investors. Maverick reallocated capital to other sectors, making significant new investments in technology and communications stocks.
