Johnson & Johnson announced promising early-stage trial results for JNJ-6143. This experimental drug is a once-daily oral treatment for prostate cancer. The company presented data at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress. The trial involved patients with advanced disease who had undergone multiple prior treatments.
In the study, 77% of 31 evaluable patients saw a decline of at least 50% in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. PSA is a key biomarker for prostate cancer. Imaging results showed 69% of patients with measurable tumors had a confirmed complete or partial response. This means their tumors disappeared or shrank.
The drug features a novel mechanism of action. Johnson & Johnson acquired JNJ-6143 through its $3.05 billion purchase of Halda Therapeutics in 2025. While early results are encouraging, further testing is required. This testing will confirm the treatment's long-term safety and effectiveness in larger patient populations.
