JetBlue is launching a major expansion at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) following Spirit Airlines' sudden shutdown. The airline is offering $99 rescue fares to assist stranded Spirit passengers. JetBlue is also capping prices on former Spirit routes to prevent market price surges.
The expansion includes adding 11 new cities to the airline's network. JetBlue will increase its schedule to nearly 130 daily departures from FLL. This move marks the airline's largest-ever operation at the airport.
JetBlue aims to fill the void left by Spirit, which was previously the largest carrier at FLL. Wall Street analysts expect JetBlue to be a primary beneficiary of the closure due to significant network overlap.
