Intel, at the OCP Global Summit, announced a new Rack Scale64 server rack with a hybrid configuration that combines its Gaudi 3 AI accelerators with NVIDIA's Blackwell B200 GPUs. This move is seen as an effort by Intel to penetrate the AI infrastructure market by offering a solution that integrates with the widely-used NVIDIA ecosystem. The demonstrated architecture features 16 computing trays, each equipped with two Xeon processors, four Gaudi 3 chips, and four NVIDIA ConnectX-7 400 Gbps network adapters, along with a BlueField-3 DPU. The networking is handled by 12 Broadcom Tomahawk 5 switches, providing 51.2 Tbps of throughput. Intel is emphasizing a strategy of scaling over Ethernet, allowing for up to 64 Gaudi chips within a single domain with the option to expand further.
