Indra Sistemas, S.A. secured a contract with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to overhaul the subway's ticketing system.

The project covers the design, manufacture, and supply of 450 new customer terminals. These terminals will be installed across 98 stations in the Washington D.C. metro network. Indra will also provide maintenance services for the system over a 15-year period.

The contract carries a base value of $38.9 million. Total project value may reach $75 million including all contract options.

The new terminals will replace existing fare machines with modern payment technologies. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and improve the passenger experience through intuitive interfaces.
