IBM and the U.S. Department of Commerce have partnered to launch Anderon, the first pure-play quantum chip foundry in the United States. The standalone company will be headquartered in Albany, New York. The project is supported by a proposed $1 billion in federal CHIPS incentives. IBM will provide a matching $1 billion investment for the venture.

Anderon will operate a 300-mm quantum wafer foundry to supply chips to global technology vendors. The initiative aims to establish U.S. leadership in the quantum computing sector. This facility supports IBM’s strategy to produce large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum systems by 2029.

Analysts identify the deal as a significant long-term catalyst for IBM’s future growth. The partnership positions IBM at the center of the domestic quantum manufacturing ecosystem. This move integrates quantum hardware into IBM’s core focus on hybrid cloud and AI.
