The European Commission fined Google €890 million for violating the Digital Markets Act. This penalty represents the largest fine ever issued under the new EU regulations.

The total fine includes a €460 million penalty for prioritizing Google’s own shopping and hotel services in search results. Regulators also imposed a €430 million fine for blocking Android developers from promoting cheaper payment options outside the Google Play Store.

The Commission concluded that Google used prominent placements and enhanced visuals to give its own services an unfair advantage. These anti-steering tactics prevented app users from accessing alternative payment methods. This decision follows a two-year investigation and confirms preliminary findings released in March 2025.
