Alphabet’s Google announced a $15 billion investment in Malaysia, scheduled for 2027 and 2028, to expand its data center and cloud computing operations. The investment responds to rising demand for digital infrastructure, largely driven by the artificial intelligence boom. Google plans to build energy-efficient data center campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
The project is expected to contribute an estimated $1.1 billion annually to Malaysia’s GDP during construction. It is also expected to support more than 37,000 local jobs each year.
The investment includes initiatives to strengthen local water security. It will also add more than one gigawatt of clean energy to the national grid and provide skills training for approximately 800,000 Malaysians by 2031.
