Alphabet has restructured the leadership of its Google DeepMind AI division.
Co-founder Demis Hassabis is stepping down as CEO to become Chairman of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet.
Koray Kavukcuoglu, a 13-year veteran of the division, will assume Hassabis's former operational duties.
Kavukcuoglu has been promoted to Senior Vice President and will report directly to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
His new mandate includes overseeing Gemini model development, frontier AI research, and Gemini developer teams.
