General Motors is reportedly developing a new electric vehicle architecture, internally codenamed BEV-N, aimed at producing more affordable mid-market EVs. This new platform is expected to eventually replace the current BEV3 architecture that underpins vehicles like the Chevy Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and several Cadillac models. The initiative is seen as a successor to the philosophy of the affordable Chevrolet Bolt, which was a popular entry-point for many EV buyers.
The first vehicles to utilize this next-generation platform are anticipated to be the future Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV models. The timeline for the first BEV-N vehicle arrival is projected for late 2028 or early 2029. This strategic shift addresses the growing market demand for more budget-friendly electric vehicles, a segment where the original Bolt found significant success.
