General Motors is introducing its new OnStar AI Assistant, one of the biggest updates to the 30-year-old connectivity service. The assistant will debut on the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq through a software update before expanding to other GM vehicles.
Drivers can activate it by saying “Hey, OnStar.” The assistant can control vehicle functions, answer questions about warning lights and plan EV charging stops using real-time vehicle data.
The launch builds on GM’s collaboration with Google Cloud, which has powered OnStar’s virtual assistant with conversational AI since 2022. The new assistant adds more advanced generative AI capabilities. If it cannot handle a request, it will connect the user with a human OnStar advisor.
The initiative is part of GM’s broader strategy to develop software-defined vehicles with integrated AI.
