U.S. auto safety regulators have escalated an investigation into potential brake failures in over 1.16 million General Motors vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) upgraded its probe to an engineering analysis, a step that often precedes a safety recall, after receiving 745 reports of incidents, including 22 crashes and six injuries.
The investigation now covers a wide range of GM models equipped with the "eBoost" system, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and others. Drivers have reported a sudden loss of brake assist, resulting in a hard brake pedal and increased stopping distances, which contradicts GM's initial explanations of the failure's behavior.
