General Motors and LG Energy Solution will resume operations at their Ultium Cells battery plant in Warren, Ohio, next week. The facility returns to production following a seven-month shutdown that began in January 2026. Approximately 1,400 employees are expected to return to the facility.

The plant produces battery cells for most of GM’s North American electric vehicle lineup. Operations were previously suspended due to weaker-than-expected consumer demand for EVs following the expiration of federal tax credits.

The restart restores critical battery capacity for models including the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Escalade IQ. This move suggests the U.S. EV market is stabilizing after significant demand fluctuations over the past year.
