GE Aerospace accelerates T901 engine development for the U.S. military. This follows a critical milestone.
The T901 engine, part of the Army's Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITEP), received its Preliminary Flight Rating in mid-2026. This rating clears the engine for formal flight qualification testing.
The T901 will re-engine the Army's Black Hawk and Apache helicopter fleets. It offers 50% more power than the T700 engines it replaces. It also provides 25% greater fuel efficiency.
New congressional funding of over $230 million in 2026 bolsters this accelerated effort. This funding addresses earlier concerns about potential program budget gaps. GE invested over $600 million in its U.S. manufacturing facilities over the past three years. These investments support its defense programs.
