President Donald Trump announced a new tariff schedule for imported generic medications to incentivize domestic manufacturing.

The policy implements zero tariffs for the first two years starting August 1, 2026. A 100% levy takes effect in August 2028. The tax rises to 200% in August 2029 for companies that do not relocate production to the U.S.

This shift impacts prescription savings platforms like GoodRx and alters drug pricing for consumers. The U.S. currently relies on India and China for the majority of its generic drug supply.
