President Donald Trump renewed his call for a full audit of the U.S. gold reserves stored at Fort Knox, posting "TIME TO AUDIT FORT KNOX" on Truth Social. His statement followed the arrest of a former senior CIA official allegedly discovered with more than $40 million in stolen government gold bars.

The U.S. has not conducted a full, independent public audit of its gold reserves since 1974. The advocacy group Sound Money Defense League used the President's post to urge Congress to pass the Gold Reserve Transparency Act. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent states the gold is audited internally each year, but no formal independent inspection has been announced.
