Ferrovial secured a $1.08 billion contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

The project involves upgrading the Río Piedras channel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This work belongs to the Puerto Nuevo flood control program to mitigate risks in the capital.

The waterway currently measures 80 feet wide. Ferrovial will expand the channel to over 160 feet. Crews will reinforce canal walls to prevent erosion and landslides in densely populated areas.

This agreement marks Ferrovial’s second contract with the USACE for this initiative. The program expects to span approximately six years. Total employment is projected to exceed 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
