Equinix has officially opened its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Hong Kong, named HK6. This new facility is specifically designed to meet the high-density power and cooling requirements of artificial intelligence innovation, featuring a liquid cooling system. The initial phase of the HK6 data center, representing an investment of $124 million, provides 1,000 cabinets, with plans to expand to a total of 3,550 cabinets upon full completion.
HK6 is directly connected to Equinix's existing campus and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park, aiming to foster cross-border collaboration and accelerate research and development in the Greater Bay Area. The facility will also host the AI Discovery Hub, a joint initiative with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and NVIDIA, further solidifying Equinix's role in the growing AI ecosystem. This expansion is part of Equinix's broader strategy to support enterprise AI deployments, which recently included an expanded collaboration with Cisco and NVIDIA to create secure "AI factories" within its data centers.
