Siemens Energy and Neptun Smulders Offshore Renewables (NSORe) secured a contract from German transmission system operator 50Hertz. The consortium will construct the 2-gigawatt North Sea Connector 2 offshore converter platform to link wind farms to the national grid.

This project marks the first time converter platforms of this 2 GW standard will be primarily manufactured in Germany. Siemens Energy will produce the electrical transmission technology at domestic factories, including transformers and converters in Nuremberg and switchgear in Berlin.

The contract includes a long-term service agreement for ongoing maintenance and support. This major order is expected to create over 500 long-term jobs and strengthen Germany's renewable energy infrastructure.
