The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) formally requested that Enbridge halt all work on its Line 5 pipeline rerouting project.
A natural gas liquids leak began Tuesday after an unoccupied semi-truck rolled into an excavation site and struck the pipeline.
The DNR expressed deep concern over the spill and cited Enbridge’s previous failures to comply with state regulations.
Regulators demanded answers to more than 20 questions regarding the incident.
Work cannot resume until the leak is fully resolved and Enbridge proves it has implemented measures to prevent future spills.
The Line 5 pipeline, which transports crude oil and natural gas liquids, remains shut down.
Enbridge spokespeople have not yet issued a public response regarding the DNR’s request to pause the project.
