The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) will increase transit surcharges for most vessel categories by approximately 12%. These new rates take effect on July 15, 2026.
The SCA attributes the adjustment to improving shipping market conditions and rising traffic volumes. This growth follows a June 14 interim agreement between the U.S. and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The geopolitical deal has eased regional tensions and prompted shipping companies to abandon the longer route around Southern Africa. Carriers are returning to the Suez Canal, supporting the authority's decision to raise fees.
