Ecolab announced a plan to make artificial intelligence data centers water-neutral. This initiative addresses rising concerns over the high water consumption required for AI cooling systems.
Chairman and CEO Christophe Beck detailed the strategy in a Fortune interview. The plan utilizes Ecolab’s water management expertise and its recent acquisition of liquid-cooling firm CoolIT.
The strategy integrates closed-loop liquid cooling with power generation and semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. This combination aims to significantly reduce the total water footprint of data center infrastructure.
Beck emphasized that while power can be generated, water cannot. TechCrunch reported that using alternative sources like treated wastewater could further decrease reliance on potable water.
