Shares of South Korea's largest e-commerce company jumped +12.7% to $17.16 as investors chose to reward accelerating top-line momentum over a deepening bottom-line hole. Total net revenues hit $10 billion, up 11% in constant currency — exceeding the company's own guidance of 8%–9%.
Revenue came in above Wall Street expectations by roughly $240 million. More important for bulls, Coupang expects Q4 constant-currency revenue growth of 13%–14% — a meaningful acceleration that signals the lingering damage from last year's data breach is fading.
The Revenue Engine Is Accelerating, Quarter by Quarter. Strip away currency moves between the Korean won and the U.S. dollar, and Coupang's growth trajectory has steadily steepened: 8% in Q1 , 10% in Q2 , 11% in Q3, and now a 13%–14% Q4 target. The newer businesses — food delivery, streaming, and its Taiwan expansion — grew 27% in constant currency to $1.6 billion , showing these bets are scaling fast. For shareholders, the question is whether this revenue ramp can eventually overwhelm the losses those bets produce.
A $501 Million Net Loss Is Hard to Ignore. Results reflected $248 million of fulfillment-center fire losses from an Incheon warehouse blaze in July , but even excluding that one-time hit, the adjusted net loss was $321 million — far worse than the $95 million net profit Coupang posted a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA (a rough proxy for operating cash generation) plunged 72% to just $116 million. The stock's 52-week plunge from $32.32 to a low of $13.35 reflects Wall Street's frustration with this profit collapse.
Management Says the Worst Is Over — Market Is Testing That Promise. Executives called Q3 the margin low point and expect profitability in the core shopping business to return to pre-incident levels by mid-2027.
Q4 adjusted EBITDA margins are forecast to improve 50–150 basis points sequentially, helped by lower marketing spending.
Citigroup upgraded the stock to Buy today with a $19 price target , though the broader analyst consensus of 18 analysts still averages $23.34 — implying 36% upside from current levels.
Taiwan Expansion Is Expensive, and the Bill Is Growing. Coupang raised the top end of its full-year loss guidance for newer businesses by $50–$100 million, largely to fund faster infrastructure buildout in Taiwan.
Trailing 12-month free cash flow — actual cash left after capital spending — was negative $409 million , versus positive $1.3 billion a year earlier. Coupang is betting it can replicate its Korean dominance in a new market, but investors are financing that bet with real cash today.
